Fresno Bee column says ALRB and UFW are “partners in crime”

A Fresno Bee column says out loud what a lot of people in the Central Valley have been saying quietly to themselves but seldom out loud: The ALRB and UFW are “partners in crime.” It starts out with a tough question: “When you have a union and a labor board both being sued by former employees for unjust treatment, how can either be expected to deliver their promises of justice to California’s field workers?” Guest writers Tal Cloud and Matt…

Whistleblower at ALRB becomes national news

The ALRB’s Isadore Hall fiasco has turned an obscure subject of the California agricultural industry into a national story about California crony corruption. Among other things, it focused light on a 30-year ALRB employee who became a whistleblower to expose the board’s wrongdoing against farmworkers. What had been confined to the Central Valley area and occasionally got attention in Sacramento and Los Angeles suddenly became a national story. From New York, the financial news giant Forbes took note in a…

Alegria de la Cruz: Another UFW loyalist on ALRB

More proof that yet another leader of the Agricultural Labor Relations Board (ALRB) is a UFW loyalist. Alegria de la Cruz, in this undated picture, is an ALRB attorney. She supervised the votes of more than 2,400 Gerawan farmworkers to de-certify the UFW in 2013. De la Cruz is shown in this picture, standing at the center in the back, wearing a UFW hat. This must have been a special occasion for de la Cruz, as the person who took the…

How the ALRB uses UFW agents to take false actions against critics

The ALRB is in a lot of trouble right now because of a whistleblower who came forward to expose corruption among the UFW loyalists on the board’s staff. Instead of coming clean, the ALRB has circled the wagons to hide information from the public. Since the exposure last year, the ALRB has been secretive and not responding to questions from reporters. It all reeks of a cover-up – and with fake UFW provocateurs in cahoots with its lawyers, it’s easy to…

Judge gives Gerawan access to ALRB whistleblower documents

A state judge has granted Gerawan Farming access to internal ALRB documents that a whistleblower exposed as part of a conspiracy to wage a legal offensive against the fruit grower. According to Ag Accent, an industry newsletter, “the documents involve a whistleblower in the agency who witnessed preparation of materials that falsely accused Gerawan of terminating a worker for advocating support for the union, and encouraging other workers to vote to accept the union.” After making a tentative decision in…

Superior Court tells ALRB to hand over whistleblower documents to Gerawan

Handing the board yet another judicial bludgeoning, a Sacramento Superior Court told the ALRB to surrender some of its internal whistleblower documents to Gerawan Farming. The “tentative decision” opens up the possibility that the ALRB might be an unconstitutional entity. According to Superior Court Judge Timothy Frawley: “Due process requires the internal separation of prosecutorial and advisory functions. It is a violation of the constitutional right to due process of law for an agency attorney acting as prosecutor to concurrently…

ALRB’s silence to reporters reeks of cover-up

The ALRB is as tight-lipped as ever with reporters who ask questions about wrongdoing, suggesting that the Board has something to cover-up. CalWatchdog ran an investigative piece about the whistleblower inside ALRB who came forward in May, alleging that the Office of Legal Counsel – then led by Sylvia Torres-Guillen – had fabricated information to deceive the Board into supporting more legal action against Gerawan Farming. “The whistleblower said that ‘false statements, inaccuracies and vague information had been written into’…
