Fresno County officially recognizes ALRB abuse of farmworkers

In a historic gesture of solidarity, the County of Fresno has officially recognizes that the ALRB has been abusing thousands of farmworkers. The County Board of Supervisors issued a proclamation designating March 28, 2017 as “Dignity and Right for Valley Farmworkers Day.” Pick Justice leader Silvia Lopez and other movement leaders joined the elected officials who signed the proclamation. How to make a big scandal out of a non issue

Apart from making a lot of noise, the dying UFW can’t (or won’t) do much to help farmworkers. Its membership has crashed from more than 50,000 to less than 5,000.  The UFW can’t (or won’t) fight for better pay. Fresno County calls for ALRB to count workers’ votes

Taking the ALRB directly to task for not counting the votes of farm workers, the Fresno County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution in solidarity with the people who work the fields. The specific workers’ vote was the November 5, 2013 balloting among Gerawan Farm workers on whether to decertify the United Farm Workers (UFW) union, which had not represented them for 20 years.
