State Fair exhibit pushes fake narrative about farmworkers

The California State Fair is promoting a fake narrative about the state’s hard-working farmworkers. For the first time in 164 years, the hugely popular State Fair has an exhibit honoring farmworkers. But one look at the exhibit shows it’s just a PR job for the UFW. No one can deny the achievements that the UFW made for farmworkers under its founder, César Chávez. Those achievements deserve commemoration. But the UFW has achieved nothing significant since Chávez died 24 years ago.…

UFW made fake allegations to support a fake protest, but won’t talk to reporters

Strawberry workers say the United Farm Workers made fake allegations of unfair labor practices and staged a fake strike by people posing as local farm workers, but the UFW won’t talk to reporters. The Herald and News interviewed workers at Cedar Point Nursery in Dorris, who said that the UFW “staged a demonstration at the property, protesting against unfair labor practices.” The UFW apparently used the fake protest to get the ALRB to intervene on its behalf. Farmworkers said UFW’s…

How can UFW represent farmworkers, when it has so few members?

How can a group with a tiny membership claim to represent the vast majority who are not members? Somehow the UFW does it. By some counts, the UFW represents less than 1 percent of California’s farmworkers. The UFW claims only 10,000 members, at most. And even that number is dubious, since it represents a spike that doubled membership in just a year – the same year the UFW claimed to represent the 5,000 or so Gerawan farmworkers who were trying…

How to make a big scandal out of a non issue

Apart from making a lot of noise, the dying UFW can’t (or won’t) do much to help farmworkers. Its membership has crashed from more than 50,000 to less than 5,000.  The UFW can’t (or won’t) fight for better pay. The ALRB’s own chairman admits that UFW organizing in California “has completely disappeared.” He even acknowledges that most California farmworkers don’t want unions. So it’s understandable that, to detract from its failures – and make it look relevant – the UFW will…

How the ALRB uses UFW agents to take false actions against critics

The ALRB is in a lot of trouble right now because of a whistleblower who came forward to expose corruption among the UFW loyalists on the board’s staff. Instead of coming clean, the ALRB has circled the wagons to hide information from the public. Since the exposure last year, the ALRB has been secretive and not responding to questions from reporters. It all reeks of a cover-up – and with fake UFW provocateurs in cahoots with its lawyers, it’s easy to…

Susan Sarandon debunks Dolores Huerta

Actress Susan Sarandon has taken on UFW warhorse Dolores Huerta, discrediting the once-influential labor figure in a series of social media comments. Farmworkers have criticized Huerta for being a has-been relic of an age long past, and for not standing up for the workers of today, who feel that the UFW is in cahoots with the ALRB. Many or most of today’s California farmworkers weren’t even alive when Huerta was an active union organizer. Wearing Hillary Clinton campaign bling at…
