De Leon: Isadore Hall’s witness threats are just ‘goofy conspiracy theories’

Senate President Kevin de Leon rejected Senator Andy Vidak’s call for an investigation into Hall’s “obscenity-laced, threatening tirade” against farmers set to testify against his appointment to the ALRB. A spokesman for de Leon brushed off the concerns as “goofy conspiracy theories.” Hall’s loud verbal attack on farmers with the California Fresh Fruit Association…

Hall made the threatening rant in the Hyatt hotel in Sacramento the night before his March 1 confirmation hearing. Isadore Hall admits he violated federal law, and pays fine for taking illegal money

ALRB member-designate Isadore Hall admitted that he violated federal election campaign law, and paid a fine for accepting illegal money, Bloomberg reports. Isadore Hall also lied to the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the report said. Hall “has agreed to pay a $1,500 fine to the Federal Election Commission because a state ballot measure committee Hall controlled received illegal ‘soft money’—contributions that didn’t comply with federal contribution limits and restrictions,” according to Bloomberg. Hall’s settlement with the FEC also required him to return…

Isadore Hall’s appointment to the Agricultural Labor Relations Board is a symptom of what the Los Angeles Times editorial board calls the state’s “shameful” and “loathsome” crony politics. “What does a career politician from urban Los Angeles County know about the state’s agricultural industry?” the Times asked, echoing not only farmers but farmworkers, too. “The concern about experience is reasonable,” the Times editorial board said. “This quasi-judicial board rules on workplace disputes over allegedly unfair labor practices and other complaints, some brought…

Forced labor: Gould confirmed what we knew about his agenda

When he quit last week, ALRB Chairman William Gould revealed a lot of his vision for the troubled state agency. He said, in essence, that the ALRB should force labor unions on farmworkers. In his resignation letter to Governor Jerry Brown, Gould confirmed what we suspected all along: He wanted ALRB to be a government unionization enforcer. Gould made it clear that he wanted ALRB to be a unionization tool, and not an impartial farmworker advocate between unions and employers.…

Gould IV, Hall’s appointment offends even him. Here are some of Hall’s conflicts of interest at this early stage: UFW endorsement. During his failed congressional bid, Hall received and accepted the political support of the United Farm Workers, showing his bias in favor of the UFW.
